Software Supply Chain Security @ SlimAI

As the head of product design at SlimAI, I crafted user experiences across multiple pivots and countless iterations. The latest pivot was presenting SlimAI as a software supply chain security product. We secured Docker containers for container vendors. As a designer who leans heavily into the product management side, I designed across all phases of product development. I took the lead in user journeys, user testing, wireframes, mockups, customer feedback, and plenty more.

Solving the problem of vulnerability collaboration

After discovering product-market fit, we needed to create a collaboration platform that enabled container vendors to collaborate with their customers on security findings. Here's how we solved the problem.

User Journeys

From the first inclination of a new feature, I facilitated user journeys throughout the feature creation. Using Design Thinking facilitation, I helped management map out their thoughts into a meaningful flow.

Duplo Wireframes

I personally don't believe in the traditional wireframe. In my early career, I worked in design agencies. I know what wireframes really are. Wireframes are a way to overcharge a client for a stage of production that is totally unnecessary, especially in 2024. A seasoned designer should have a design system that can be utilized to create any idea at high fidelity in a quick manner. That being said, I do believe in Duplo Wireframes- you know, like Duplo Lego? The super simplified Lego? So when necessary, at SlimAI, I created these ultra-low-fidelity wireframes called Duplos that help the team understand user flows.

Design System

As previously mentioned, a proper design system is critical for any rapid design process. At SlimAI, I created and managed the Design System in Figma to facilitate my design process and instruct front-end developers the necessary details of a delightful front-end design.

Mockups and Hand-Off

Designing mockups to hand off to developers is always a challenge. If we're working in agile, how can we be "handing off designs?" But a good designer will figure out the cadence, they will figure out the moments between sprints to create mockups and their flows, and they will know what details to communicate to developers on a daily basis.

User Testing & Research

I created the user testing and research program at SlimAI to start testing our mockups and prototypes. Initially, our feedback was all internal (did our fellow teammates like the designs??). But we all know that's a bad route to test designs. We needed our design partners and other external users to tell us if our designs actually *worked*. We used PlaybookUX as our user testing platform. I also conducted quarterly NPS surveys amongst our customers and design partners.
